Mount Lavinia

Last week and one of the previous weeks I have been to beach in Mount Lavinia. First weekend I, Gizem and Maral have been to the Buba restaurant and spent the whole day eating, drinking, reading, watching the kite surfers, trying to swim in the waves and trying to avoid the very insisting middle aged man around us (he was trying to give information about where to go in Sri Lanka, first I appreciated this and listened for a long time then he didn't leave so we decided to be not interested, then he went and came back with a list of places with on top of the list written his mobile number). They called this Buba rest. a hidden gem in some of the blogs and I am agree that it is very beautiful. When we were there for the second time last week with Didem and Dilhun -they only had two weeks so I wanted to show them around- the half of the restaurant was gone due to the ocean! They had chairs and tables in front of the rest.fences but now that part is a part of the sand/ocean combination. So last week we were in the Mount Lavinia Hotel's beach and it is a very charming hotel but don't need to exaggerate like they did on their web-site. However i would like to share some info about the hotel that I read on the site: 'This enchanting British Colonial heritage hotel, located on a breathtaking beachfront, is a living legacy to the secret love story between the British Governor General of Ceylon, Sir Thomas Maitland, and the beautiful mestizo dancer, Lovina. The legendary romance has made this Colombo hotel one of the most popular venues in Sri Lanka for weddings; couples from around the world fly to this fabled island for a custom-planned wedding at the Mount Lavinia Hotel '. And here are some pictures of those two sundays on Mount Lavinia.

Fruiterer on our way back to office

Today I and my colleague Vixie went to a manufacturer, on our way back from factory we stop for this old little fruit shop. We were in the airport area of Colombo, there are a lot of likewise shops or stands on the road back to city. We bought the most delicious pineapple for only 20 Sri Lankan rupee which means 2 cents. Unbelievable! Try pineapple with salt and pepper...MMmmmm!! From another shop I bought papaya, that is suppose to be eaten with a little lime on it. Yummy! And for that I paid 70 Rs...
Ahh! I almost forgot, we also drank King Coconut Juice by only chopping coconuts top part off! After finishing drinking the saleslady (very shy) cut the coconut in two and we ate the white layer inside of it by using another chopped part of coconut as a spoon. And here are the pictures...

Road trip to South of Sri Lanka

Previous week there was one day holiday (Friday) as it was the national day of Sri Lanka, so we used the opportunity to discover a little bit more. As there will be so much more time to see around in Colombo, I and three friend of mine agreed to go to South, road tripping from West Coast. We hired a car with a driver (with a driver!!). The roads here are full of surprises, kinda dangerous if you are used to drive in Europe I suppose. I couldn't count how many times i hit my head back with sudden brakes, but then I got used to it and even slept despite the fear. On the road we made a lot of stops that's why it took one day to get to our target on south. On the way to Tangalla, we've seen Panadura (seemed very alike to Colombo but maybe more colourful streets), Ambalangoda, Bentota (famous with Bentota beach), Hikkaduwa, Galle Fort (The fort walls), Unawatuna, Midigama, Weligama (famous with fisherman fishing sitting/standing on sticks- we couldn't see any but we saw the empty sticks-and also a lot of colourful catamarans by the beach-there is also a small island called Taprobane, you can rent the big mansion on the island as I heard-must be very expensive though), then we passed through Mirissa (there was a very funny sentence I read on Lonely Planet about this place "Mirissa is designed for sitting and being, not for doing") and then finally just before our destination there was Matara, and between Matara and Tangalla I remember that I saw a very big interesting building which i believe was a temple, our driver said it could be Dondra, well... I don't know). And finally we were at our destination, Palm Paradise Cabanas in Goyambokka. Here we stayed 2 nights three days, the dinners were delicious, I loved the soups. The breakfasts were incredible to me because of seeing all those exotic fruits together at breakfast and I enjoyed it sooo much. We tried to swim in ocean, I say tried because there were a lot of waves. Then we drank a little wine (!) and then slept in our lovely cabana in our orange beds covered with green mosquito nets hearing the ocean. I am a happy lucky person. And now here are some pictures of our trip.
